THE SIGNATURE MOCKTAIL
To celebrate the launch of Bois Impérial Extrait, we’ve teamed up with renowned mixologist Sébastien Gans (former head bartender at La Candelaria) to create a mocktail inspired by the fragrance’s notes. Recreate the mocktail at home as a unique way to explore the fragrance’s olfactory universe.

DISCOVER SEBASTIEN GANS
Mixologist
Former head bartender at La Candelaria (ranked among the 10 best bars in the world) and Carbón, Sébastien Gans has worked as a cocktail and spirits consultant for the past 8 years. For the launch of Bois Impérial by Quentin Bisch Extrait, he crafted both a mocktail and a signature cocktail inspired by the fragrance’s notes.
What inspired you to take on the challenge of creating a cocktail and a mocktail for Bois Impérial Extrait?
Two reasons: The first is the respect I’ve had for “noses” ever since I read Jean Claude Ellena’s “Journal d’un parfumeur”. Some of the thoughts he develops in this book inspired me a lot at the start of my career, especially the questions about the choice of raw materials. This book was recommended to me by my grandmother, who proudly told me that we had a Nez ancestor at Fragonard in Grasse.
The second and main reason is the close relationship between these two senses. As the main taste receptors are located in the nose, I knew that the tastings with the Essential Parfums team would be interesting and rigorous. It was a great challenge.
Can you tell us about your creative process?
Translating a wide range of olfactory notes into a single harmonious and coherent blend was a real challenge.
In Bois Impérial Extrait, there were a multitude of different notes: wood, leather, timut, black pepper, rose, atlas cedar, akigalawood and so on. I wanted to stay true to the fragrance: rich, powerful and soft. This led me to the idea of making a milk punch. It’s the only family of cocktails that can bring together so many different ingredients while remaining homogeneous and elegant.
What thrills you most about your job?
It’s easy! Meeting the public and, above all, trying to give them pleasure. If a customer smiles after enjoying a cocktail, I’ve won the day.
Can you describe a mocktail in your own words?
Like the perfume, it’s made up of comforting ingredients such as coconut water infused with curry leaves and maple. Then other ingredients with a sharper, more electric character: tonic or grapefruit/black pepper cordial.
